Um... not necessarily. Defensive is when someone reacts to something they perceive as an accusation. That can be construed through words or actions.

I guess you could say they were reacting defensively to you guys pulling them in to talk, but getting pulled in to talk with people should actually get people to think that the other party thinks they're solid to talk with.
