It might not read that way to others. Defensive posturing is more like... acting like someone's responding to an accusation. Here, they started in with the act of victims. They weren't reacting necessarily to anything that was said.
Um... not necessarily. Defensive is when someone reacts to something they perceive as an accusation. That can be construed through words or actions.
I guess you could say they were reacting defensively to you guys pulling them in to talk, but getting pulled in to talk with people should actually get people to think that the other party thinks they're solid to talk with.
... the whole "we're suspected no matter what we say"? I guess I saw that more as "we're in the clue, of course we're suspected", or it could even be something lingering from the other game. That one kid, Shark? Dropped mention to it when I was explaining how I don't really take much stock in "random" choices in this game.
Starting by calling it an interrogation, for one. Then that part, yes. The thing about it is it makes them equal with the other two people in the clue. They shouldn't be. A mouse will want to be seen as equal to everyone else in the clue. A child will know they're innocent. It's not a matter of shouting or arguing, but there's something off in their perspective.
It still isn't defensive necessarily. They started with the act, they didn't react to what you had to say. That says pre-planning. Which is more suspicious than a kneejerk.
Careful with how you term things because people who support them will use misuse of description to get them off the hook. Classic tactic.

But as for them seeming defensive... no one likes talking about previous bad experiences in games.

It's defensive when something is said, not when nothing is said.

They should have known they were going to have to talk to people.
